A SCHOOL is looking forward to a bright future after celebrating its second anniversary as an academy.

The head teacher of Beamont Collegiate Academy, Andrew Moorcroft, thinks that things are really looking up for the school and this is reflected in the fact the school is over-sunscribed for the firat time in its history.

The school became an academy in April 2013 and has since been granted £10million to build a new school building on the field that Mr Moorcroft says will boast ‘superb facilities’.

“It is great that the builders are actually on site now; they have done all the preparation work and have just started the real work so we’ve got the machinery and the diggers coming in to start the build,” Mr Moorcroft, who took on the role 18 months ago.

“It is a 54-week programme for the building so basically in just over 12 months time we will be stepping into a brand new building with superb facilities, brand new classrooms, laboratories, engineering workshops, a hairdressing salon, all sorts of things.

“It has been a long time coming for this school and the community.

“We have a really strong link with the community, they use our resources every day and we hire out our facilities every evening for community use so they will have access to it as well.

“It is what the students deserve.”

Mr Moorcroft believes that the new build and initiatives such as the school being open for coding and performance sessions are helping attract pupils to Beamont.

He said: “A big indicator for us is that we are oversubscribed next year in terms of students wanting to come here.

“More students than ever want to come to Beamont - the school has never been oversubscribed before and that is a great sign for us that our reputation is growing and people are getting to hear about the excellent things going on here and the younger children want to come to us.”
