POLICE have issued a warning over a recent spate of thefts from cars in Fearnhead and the surrounding area.

Four cars were reported as having being broken into on Saturday, October 18.

Warrington East NPU said the incidents happened on Blackburne Close, Fearnhead Lane, Barnes Avenue and Anderson Close.

The vehicles targeted - a Ford Mondeo, Ford Galaxy, Ford Focus, Range Rover - had all been left open, with valuables on display.

A sat nav and Cannon camera were stolen from the Mondeo's glove box, and a Blackberry was stolen from the Ford Galaxy.

There was nothing taken from the Ford Focus but signs of an untidy search, someone having entered the vehicle.

And £20 worth of change was stolen from Range Rover.

Police believe criminals are walking around late at night and trying car doors to see if they have been locked.

Sgt Darren Burns is urging residents to make sure cars are locked and valuables are kept out of sight.

He said: "In order to combat this type of crime it is imperative that you secure your vehicles and remove items from display.

"Statistics show that these type of crime are opportunistic and simple measures can be taken to reduce your level of vulnerability.

"Also, should you see any suspicious activity, particularly during the early hours, please notify police so that they can attend the area at the time."

Anyone with information on car crime can call Warrington East NPU on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
