A WEEK of lessons on the theme of the Olympics challenged children to be competitive.
Pupils at Birchwood Community High School teamed up to represent countries from all five continents.
Africa was declared the winner after earning the most gold, silver and bronze medals during the ‘Get Set for 2012’ event, culminating in a celebration assembly.
Media manager Karen Dyble said: “The assembly was a great success and a riot of colours as learners had all made the effort to wear a colour from the flag of the country they represented.”
Words capturing the outstanding qualities required of Olympic competitors opened the assembly.
Olympic bunting designed by year seven art pupils decorated the sports hall.
The year nine chamber choir performed and students displayed a selection of their art work.
Pupils from years seven and eight read their own poems about Olympic values.
Teams competed in a Birchwood Olympic event the following day.
