SIX Girl Guide leaders who work across Birchwood, Locking Stumps and Croft have received long service awards for their dedication to Girl Guiding UK.

The women, who have 85 years of volunteering between them, picked up their awards during a ceremony in front of the rest of their guiding county, the Cheshire Forest, last Thursday.

Naomi Warburton, aged 21, Rachel Watts, aged 25, and Rachel King, aged 22, have all completed five years of service.

Jennifer Lyons, aged 26, has volunteered for 10 years, Rachel King's mum Janet has dedicated 20 years to Girl Guiding and Judith Parker has served for 40 years.

Girl Guiding UK is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK, giving them a space where they can build friendships and gain valuable life skills.

Within the Moss Edge Division, these 6 leaders individually run Rainbows, Brownies, Girl Guides and Senior sections in their areas.

Jennifer Lyons, leader of the 1st Moss Edge Senior Section, said: “Some girls are really quiet when they first join us, and then there confidence just grows. Many of them then stay to become leaders themselves.”

Jennifer, from Oakwood, was a member of the Rainbows and Brownies from the age of seven and has grown up within the groups.

She added: “It’s important to me to make sure that the opportunities that were there for me will still be there for the young girls and women in the future.

“The award is a great acknowledgement of all our work and time, especially for Judith who has helped for hours and hours a week for the last 40 years."
