Grants available to help support community

COMMUNITY groups across Fairfield and Howley could be in the money thanks to a new source of funding.

The Community Development Foundation has made £67,000 available over the next four years for community organisations in the area.

Grants ranging from £250 to £2,500 can be given to organisations and events which support community development and group activities.

A panel of councillors and residents has been formed to look at applications.

Due to short timescales for the first allocation of funding, which must be given out before the end of June, projects such as Howley Carnival, Scott Street Carnival, Jubilee celebrations and the production and publication of a central newsletter have already been put forward.

The panel is now looking for more ideas and funding applications and money can go to new and established groups.

All groups must do is match the funding required with volunteer time, donations from other sources or fundraising and fit one or more of these criteria: community events; family support, 11 to 16s diversionary and educational activities; elderly, isolated and young mums groups.
