Latchford Community hub transformation

A COMMUNITY centre at the heart of Latchford is set for a transformation.

Latchford Community Hub at St Margaret’s Community Centre, on Lindley Avenue, has been awarded funding from Stronger Together, LPSA and Wren to help pay for a variety of work.

The centre is a base for community groups and sessions and, in the past year, trustees and volunteers have been working hard to keep the hub open and increase its use.

A cafe run by volunteers has been introduced as well as a book exchange after the area lost its mobile library service last year.

The funding will go towards improving the building’s appearance, increase its energy efficiency and add soundproofing to the centre.

Trustees are now in discussions to establish a timeframe for work to and thank the community’s support in backing its bid for the funding.

Barry Massey, chairman of St Margaret’s Community Hub, said: “I’m very pleased and excited that after all the hard work we have been successful in our bid. It’s a massive boost to volunteers, staff and the community and we all look forward to the refurbishment and making the hub fit for the 21st century.

“We are hoping to start work in June and be finished early in September.”
