Band rock school gig

SIR Thomas Boteler Church of England High School rocked during the visit of band In Hindsight.

The group performed for students and promoted messages warning students against the risks of cyber bullying.

The three-piece band comprising brothers Michael and Daniel Newcombe and Isaac Anderson played tracks from their recently released album in the school hall before answering questions from pupils.

Teachers added the whole event was a ‘resounding success’.

In Hindsight are on tour this spring and will play at the Academy 2 in Manchester in April.

Students’ careers fair

THE next generation of workers were able to investigate their dream jobs at the annual careers fair at Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School.

The event, which aims to provide pupils with advice and guidance to prepare them for the next step in their lives, was hailed as a success by school leaders.

Around 30 exhibitors representing colleges, universities, training providers and companies attend the fair.

This included Bank of America, Barclays Bank, Sainsbury’s, Compass Group, Solvay Interox, Unilever, Sellafield and Eddie Stobart.

Planning for the next careers fair to be held in November will start during the summer term.

New homes plan bid

A FRESH application to build more than 100 homes in Howley has been submitted.

A scheme was due to be discussed by councillors for the work on the vacant land at the corner of Church Street and Farrell Street before Christmas.

But that has been withdrawn and a fresh bid was put forward last Tuesday.

Countryside Properties and Your Housing have submitted the new scheme which will be a mix of two and three-bedroom homes and two-bedroom apartments.

The previous bid had been criticised by councillors for poor access.

The new one would see vehicles enter via Farrell Street.

Conversion go-ahead

PLANS to turn two flats into a house on Wilderspool Causeway has been approved by council planners.

The work will now be carried out on the home at 138 Wilderspool Causeway.

Business is blocked

PLANS for a car repair business to open on Knutsford Road have been refused.

Planners have thrown out a scheme to keep operating the business.

They said the noise and disturbance was too much for residents in the area to cope with.
