PUPILS at St Elphin's CE Primary School had an assembly to remember after being treated to a tuba masterclass.

Travelling by Tuba duo Chris Cranham and Stewart Death visited the school, on Farrell Street, and taught the children how to play the tuba and other instruments before carrying out workshops.

Year 5/6 pupil Rochelle Rowland revealed the experience was one to remember and made sure her parents knew every detail.

"Travelling by Tuba was hilarious, with tons of interesting instruments," she said.

"Some of the instruments were tubas, drums and lots more! There were some funny parts and some amazing parts - all of it made me laugh out loud!

"The whole performance encouraged me to play instruments more often, literally.

"I knew it was going to be fun as soon as a member blew on the tuba. When I got home, I couldn’t stop talking about it. That’s how amazing it was."

Even those who were not present in the assembly, soon realised just how much excitement the children were having, as school receptionist Charlotte Herley recalls.

"They all really enjoyed it, even in the office we could hear just how much fun they were having in the hall," she said.

"All of them were said to be happy to getting involved and to learn how to play."

Formed 21 years ago, Travelling by Tuba now perform in excess of 200 concerts a year and have appeared regularly on BBC Radio.
