Animals move into new pond as part of revamp at children’s zoo

RESIDENTS at Walton Hall Children’s Zoo have been going quackers over their new home.

The ducks at the zoo have been settling into their new pond after work to rebuild the area was finally complete after more than a year’s work.

The revamp also included an extension to the red squirrel enclosure to give them a water runway to move from one cage to another and an expansion to the breeding cage.

The former pond was 40 years old, leaked and was difficult to keep clean.

But the new one has filters to help keep the water clean and has ornamental decorations including a waterfall and rockery.

The redevelopment was thanks to funding from FCC Environment Ltd through the Landfill Communities Fund distributed by Wren, Warrington Borough Council and the Friends of Walton Hall.

Richard Smith, grant manager for Wren, said: “Wren aims to fund projects that make a real difference to local communities and hope the zoo is used and enjoyed by people of all ages for many years to come.”
