FORGET girl power – boy power is the thing at a Latchford church as it makes a break from tradition at its summer fair.

Christ Church Latchford will be crowning not a Rose Queen this year to represent the parish on Warrington Walking Day but a Summer Prince.

A spokesman from the church said: “Every year in June Christ Church on Wash Lane, crowns a young girl, a member of the Sunday School, as Rose Queen to represent the parish on Walking Day and through the coming year.

“This year, however, all the young girls were either too young or too old for this. We were left with a problem as to what to do.

“After much debate, it was decided that we would choose a boy, not to be a Rose Queen of course, but to represent the parish as our Summer Prince.

“This is an exciting time for our church as we believe that it is the first time this has happened in Warrington.”

Tyler Ross, aged 11, will be installed with a sash as the first Summer Prince at the fair on Saturday from 1.30pm and all are welcome to attend the event which includes stalls and refreshments.
