A SANKEY Bridges man has been sentenced after being found with a knife when making a 999 call.

Anthony Moores, of Old Liverpool Road, was found by police after making the emergency call at 10.20pm in April.

The 22-year-old was making threats to kill himself but was carrying a 4in serrated knife in the pocket of his jeans when he was found.

Three weeks later Moores made a similar 999 call to police, again threatening suicide.

Officers threatened the defendant with taser guns before taking a 5in blade from him.

He told police he was suffering from depression and only wanted to hurt himself.

He pleaded guilty at Warrington Crown court on Friday.

Defending, Chudi Grant said the defendant’s learning difficulties means he acts immaturely.

He said: “He understands full well the seriousness of carrying a knife. The knife wasn’t brandished – this was a cry for help.”

Moore was given a 12-month supervision order and told to do 200 hours’ unpaid work.
