THE parents of murdered schoolgirl Shafilea Ahmed have been granted bail.

Iftikhar Ahmed, aged 51, and Farzana Ahmed, aged 48, were bailed at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday by Mr Justice Richard Henriques subject to various conditions.

The taxi driver and his wife were charged with the murder of the former Great Sankey High School pupil on September 7.

They must attend Warrington police station every day between noon and 1pm, hand in all passports and stay at their home on Liverpool Road where a curfew will be imposed from midnight to 7am.

Both will appear at Chester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on September 27.

Shafilea’s remains were discovered on the banks of the River Kent in Cumbria in February 2004.

She had disappeared from the family home five months previously.

An inquest ruled she was unlawfully killed in 2008.
