Couple hope five-month journey will inspire others

A FORMER full time racing cyclist from Great Sankey is hoping his ‘adventure of a lifetime’ will inspire more people to get in the saddle.

Michael Gregg, aged 20, lived in Belgium for two years as a road racer but this year has been doing something different.

The former Penketh High School pupil and his girlfriend Marie Voreland are taking five months out to tour around Europe on their bikes, starting in Spain and finishing in Marie’s home country of Norway.

Michael, who worked at Asda Westbrook to fund the trip, said: “My passion for cycling came from my dad who was interested in riding charity events and watching racing on the TV.

“I joined my local club Liverpool Century and my racing took me into the junior level where I competed in national events and getting many top 10s and small wins.”

During his last year at Priestley College, Michael decided to fully commit to cycling and became full time basing himself in Belgium and racing for a top amateur team.

He added: “I met Marie and we decided to save up for our dream trip which would cover 10,000km to explore what Europe has to offer.

“I hope to inspire people to get out of the house and find something they love doing while they have their health.”
