STAFF at Warrington Youth Club have been celebrating after seeing a fundraising target doubled in 2014.

New ton-based drinks company Vimto hoped to raise £50,000 over the past 12 months but were delighted to announce they had smashed that target and raised £100,000 for the Great Sankey charity.

Dave McNicholl, chief executive of Warrington Youth Club, which is based at the Peace Centre, said: “We are thrilled that the Vimto team has more than doubled its fundraising target.

"As well as the great events and activities they planned, Vimto has really got involved with the club, with volunteers coming along to work with the young people and also welcoming some of them into the company offices during the summer to see how the business works.

“All of the funds raised throughout the year will support some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people here in Warrington. This money will help raise their skills, confidence and aspirations.”

Fundraisers throughout the year have included staff from Vimto and Warrington Youth Club tackling Kilimanjaro including James Nichols, who is the great grandson of the inventor of Vimto, John Noel Nichols.

The team raised around £55,000 before organising a charity golf day and gala dinner at Mere Golf and Spa Resort with former Dragon's Den contestant Levi Roots making an impromptu performance.

Throughout the year, the company has also taken part in a number of activities ranging from cake sales to half marathons.

James Nichols from Vimto said: “We have definitely got something back from it as a company.

"Some of the team have become mentors at the Youth Club.

"They have seen the difference they can make to these young people by just giving them some of their knowledge, support and guidance. It can help make the future seem less daunting.”
