YOUNGSTERS at Great Sankey Primary School took part in a week-long commemoration to remember the First World War.

The ‘We will Remember’ week saw all of the children, from nursery to year six, enjoying activities including art work, writing information reports, learning war songs and even a trip to the local cenotaph and a recent visit to Stanford Military Hospital at Dunham Massey.

Nursery and reception classes made the number 100 out of poppies and talked about the role of soldiers while infants visited St Mary's Church and laid wreaths.

Lower key stage two were kept busy writing remembrance week information leaflets and creating poppies while upper key stage two learnt songs from the time, studied the novel War Horse and produced some emotive artwork.

Head teacher Vicky Briggs said: "It is so important that we teach the children the act of remembrance and allow them to understand the sacrifices others have made before us."
