PENKETH High School is set to host this year's Remembrance Sunday service for the area in what is expected to be one of the best attended services in recent years.

The Heath Road school has been planning for anything between 250 to 1,000 people paying their respects during the 100th anniversary commemoration remembrance service on Sunday.

To mark the occasion, the school have designed and produced badges for the Royal British Legion which are available in school for £2 as well as pupils taking part in a series of workshops around the conflict.

A variety of art work has all been produced by pupils which will be displayed on the day as well as a film screening involving war veteran Harry Mason and Peter Rutherford from the Penketh and Sankey Heritage Group.

The day will begin with the parade assembling at Honiton Square at 9.30am before proceeding for a short service in the garden of remembrance at Penketh Tavern at 10am.

The parade will then proceed to Penketh High School for the remembrance service before the parade re-assembles at 11.20am and proceed to St Mary’s Cemetery.

At 11.45am the wreath laying ceremony will take place at the cenotaph and sounding of the Last Post before refreshments will be provided back at Penketh High School from 12pm.
