IF you go out into the woods in Chapelford, you are sure of a big surprise.

For new additions in Our Wood include a stepper, cross trainer and bench press as the installation of promised outdoor gym equipment has finally been completed.

Clr Faisal Rashid has been working for months to get the project completed after seeing a similar idea while he was away in Turkey and believes it 'ticks all the boxes'.

He added: "We think it will reduce anti-social behaviour in the area as well as hopefully reducing pressure on the NHS in the long-term by encouraging people to get outside rather than sit in playing on their Xbox or Playstation.

"There are machines to work the whole body and any age over around eight-years-old can get something out of it.

"Even dog walkers could jump on one of the machines for five or 10 minutes of cardio."

The Whittle Hall councillor added feedback had been positive so far and he was looking forward to seeing more residents use the site.

He said: "I had a go on the equipment and it's absolutely brilliant.

"I am very happy to see children making good use of it and will continue to support all outdoor activities that encourage our children to exercise and be healthy."
