PUPILS at Penketh High School grabbed their knives and forks to help mark this year’s ‘Big Lunch’ initiative.

The aim of the scheme from the Eden Project is to get as many people as possible across the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually in an act of ‘community, friendship and fun’.

The Heath Road school joined forces with Age Unite for this year’s event and teachers said everyone enjoyed the day.

Jane Kennedy, assistant head teacher, said: “Penketh High recognise the importance of working with members of our community.

“Given that we have the Heritage Centre on site already, we saw this as an opportunity to bring the generations together.

“Pupils prepared and served a hot pot lunch for many of the older members of our school community.

“Our guests thoroughly enjoyed their lunch but the highlight for the majority was having time to talk with pupils.

“Thank you cards and comments received since the event have said that the pupils were a credit to the school and parents.”
