Teaching chief says Great Sankey is one of the most outstanding sites he has visited

A GOVERNMENT adviser on behaviour heaped praise on staff and pupils at Great Sankey High School during a recent visit.

Charlie Taylor, chief executive of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, visited the Barrow Hall Lane school to look at how the school-to-school support model is working in the area.

The former head teacher at a school for children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties was given a tour visiting lessons in maths, history and geography and had a look at teaching and learning in the sixth form.

He also met with members of the Great Sankey Alliance to discuss the work of Warrington schools with head teachers and council members.

Afterwards Mr Taylor said Great Sankey High was ‘one of the most outstanding schools’ he had ever visited and praised the ‘ethos and buzz’ in classrooms.

Alan Davies, executive head teacher, said: “We were delighted to welcome Charlie Taylor to our school.

“His vision of schools supporting each other and collaborating to improve is one that the Great Sankey Alliance has firmly adopted as one of its guiding principles.

“Great Sankey has always been an outward looking school and as a community school we have enjoyed working with our alliance partners to develop tomorrows teachers and ensure our current staff are the best they can be.”
