Ravenbank chairman joins select band of 54 and will play a pivotal job

THE chairman of governors at a Lymm primary school has joined a select band of people in a national job.

Liz Green, who heads up the governing body at Ravenbank Primary School in Lymm, will now support other chairmen on improving school performance.

She is one of only 54 governors to be appointed to the role of National Leader of Governance (NLG) in the latest recruitment round by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL).

Lesley Sweeney, head teacher of Ravenbank Community Primary School, said: “As this is only my second term in post, I am delighted to be working alongside a National Leader of Governance.

“Warrington has a strong established culture of sharing expertise and it is wonderful that Ravenbank can play a pivotal role in supporting other schools.”

Charlie Taylor, chief executive of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, said: “Governors play an essential role as leaders in our schools – they are the people who appoint head teachers and hold them to account. “High-quality governance is vital for improving school performance and it is fantastic that chairs of governors like Liz Green are willing to step up and look beyond their own school in order to help others who will benefit from their support.”

Leaders will provide coaching and can support their counterparts in a range of different ways – for example in using data effectively to improve school performance or by providing more effective support and challenge for their head teacher.
