Lyndsay’s bid to raise
£800 to help fund South American volunteer trip

A former Lymm High School pupil is set to embark on a trip to Bolivia in April as part of a volunteer project aimed at tackling poverty and oppression.

Lindsay Allan, aged 23, of Handforth Close, Thelwall, will be travelling to the country – one of South America’s poorest – as part of the venture by the International Service.

The university graduate, currently working at Virgin Care, has pledged to raise £800 for the charity and has carried out a series of fundraising events so far including a Christmas jumper day at work and a South American-themed cocktail party with friends.

She said: “I travelled to South America last year but it was more of a travelling trip, I didn’t get chance to volunteer but having seen some of the places of poverty I wanted to help.

“It is just amazing how much has been donated so far, people have been really generous and the money that has been raised has happened much quicker than I thought.

“I volunteered for Action for Children in Manchester last year but this will be my first overseas volunteering project and I am looking forward to it.”

Lindsay will be part of a group of five or six UK volunteers, aged between 18 and 25, who will work with local, in-country volunteers to help contribute to projects established by charitable organisations and previous International Service volunteers.
