A DOG fouling campaign has been launched in Culcheth and Glazebury.

The parish council has funded the production of notices for every home in the two villages reminding dog owners to pick up after their pets.

Cllr Chris Vobe said: "Allowing your pet to foul is not only illegal, it is a serious health hazard on our pavements and green spaces.

"We're taking the lead in responding to residents’ concerns, raising awareness and reminding owners of their responsibilities.

"We are fortunate that, here in Culcheth and Glazebury, most people are considerate and responsible when it comes to looking after their pets.

"However, we must work to send a clear message in areas where dog fouling has been a problem that we are working with enforcement officers to stamp out the problem and take strong action against anyone who is caught."

The notices have been produced in partnership with Warrington Borough Council and Golden Gates Housing Trust, based on a similar project run in the town centre last year.

Cllr Vobe added: "This poster scheme is based upon one which operated successfully in the centre of town.

"After residents there displayed the notices to say that they won’t tolerate fouling outside their home, the area benefitted from a measurable reduction in dog fouling. We hope to see a similar decrease here."

Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council is encouraging all residents to display the poster in their windows. Additional copies of the poster can be obtained by contacting Cllr Vobe at chrisvobe@googlemail.com or phone 419 481.
