WITH your help a green space in Glazebury could be transformed into a natural play area and community hub.

A neighbourhood action group behind Glazebury Community Play Area are working with The Mersey Forest team to regenerate the Hurst Mill Lane site.

The land has been leased from Bents garden centre by Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council and features climbing logs, wildflowers, fruit trees, a willow tunnel and den building areas to encourage youngsters to engage in natural play.

Over the next few weeks the group also hopes to start building a main footpath and campaigners have now applied for a grant through the Lloyds Banking Community Fund for a community growing area with raised beds.

Glazebury Community Play Area was shortlisted from more than 4,500 applications for the funds but now the project needs your vote which could see a grant of up to £3,000 awarded.

Jo Sayers, from The Mersey Forest team, said: "We would be thrilled if we managed to get the maximum number of votes. In addition to being able to create the growing area on site, it would really show us the level support we have.

"The play area aims to get the children back outdoors in nature, but just as importantly it’s a place to get people together and to feel part of our community."

Glazebury Community Play Area has been funded by Cory Environmental Trust and the Big Tree Plant as part of The Mersey Forest with extra help from Eric Wright Construction and United Utilities.
