n75-year-old says there is no protection from weather and the seats are too high

A PENSIONER has labelled the new bus shelters in Birchwood as a waste of money saying they are not fit for purpose.

Nora Slate, of Dunnock Grove, catches buses in Admirals Road almost every day.

The 75-year-old uses the new shelter in the direction of Birchwood while waiting for buses to Asda but says it is not wide enough.

Nora said: “It offers no protection from the wind.”

Meanwhile, Nora reckons the replacement shelter in the direction of Warrington is set too far back meaning she cannot see buses coming due to the shrubbery.

She added: “You have to stand at the bus stop so it defeats the purpose of having a shelter.”

Nora also thinks the perch seats in both shelters are too narrow and high to comfortably sit on.

She said: “Everyone I’ve spoken to has complained about these bus shelters. They’re not fit for purpose and a waste of money.”

A council spokesman said the authority would be happy to speak to any resident with concerns about the shelters.

She added: “Admirals Road, Warrington-bound, has had a replacement shelter in the exact location of the shelter that was removed.

“The shelter on the other side of the road, Birchwood-bound, is an additional shelter and has been designed to accommodate a new cycle way to the rear.

“Both shelters are of standard construction with regard to perch seating and have been positioned in such a way to afford access for all passengers while providing some protection from the elements.”
