Campaign victory after landowner suspends charges
CAR parking fines have been lifted in Lodge Drive in Culcheth after a community campaign.
The landlord at LNL Properties in Winwick has suspended parking restrictions for six months following a backlash from customers parking to visit shops and restaurants.
There are signs saying the private car park can be used by customers but some people have still found their cars slapped with tickets.
Clr Paul Campbell, from Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, led the campaign and has thanked the landowner for his community spirit after the u-turn.
Clr Campbell, a retired police officer, said: “This is great news for the many motorists who visit Culcheth daily and park on Lodge Drive to visit shops, restaurants, the playground and the Methodist church.
“I have been campaigning against this practice for some time and I have met with and written to the landlord and I am pleased to say they have listened to the concerns of residents and shop owners.”
The landlord will now monitor the use of the car park for the next six months.
If it is felt the spaces are abused in that time restrictions and fines could be reintroduced.
Clr Campbell, of Bollin Close, added: “I would hope that this will not be the case and I would like to thank the landlord for the community spirit they have shown in making this decision, one which I fully support.
“In the meantime I will be writing to the landlord to thank them for this most welcome announcement and asking that they either remove or cover up the current parking signage to help avoid any confusion.”
