CALLING all volunteers. Help is needed to make sure that Winwick Carnival goes off with a bang.

It promises to be bigger and better than before when carnival fever sweeps through Winwick on Saturday, July 19.

But the annual fair is run entirely by volunteers and relies on the kindness and generosity of its supporters, sponsors and advertisers to make sure the event is a success.

The team is now looking for people who can spare a few hours to help plan the carnival and make sure that it runs smoothly.

Cathryn Howard, secretary of the Winwick Carnival committee, said: “You can give as little or as much time as you want.

“It’s a great way to support the community and we have people from all backgrounds. I work in PR and there’s a mechanic and a teacher.

“It’s great to get different perspectives to make sure we come up with different ideas.”

Previous events have included carnival favourites such as the haunted house, the tea cups and sheep racing with last year’s carnival attracting more than 5,000 visitors.

Volunteers will help make those all important final decisions while coming up with new and exciting ideas to attract visitors.

Cathryn, who has volunteered for the past three years, said: “We are also looking for people who have interesting stories about Winwick to go in the programme too.

“It would be great to find out something new about where we live.”

This year there will be a performance from a group of free runners, a civil war re-enactment and a game stall selling kebabs and burgers.

And with the event’s popularity for the fair growing year on year, 2014 looks set to be the best one yet, said Cathryn.
