A GLAZEBURY councillor has pledged to help reduce the number of HGVs rumbling through the village as one of her first actions since being newly elected.

Joan Grime was elected on to Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council following a by-election for the Glazebury and Mee Brow seat in December.

Cllr Grime wants to tackle the long-standing issue of Glazebury being used as a rat run by lorries diverging off the East Lancashire Road.

Residents on Warrington Road, Hurst Mill Lane and nearby streets say they have experienced vibrations to such an extent that the foundations of their homes have been damaged.

Cllr Grime has also raised concerns about speeding along certain stretches of Warrington Road which has been recognised by recent studies by Warrington Borough Council.

The Chiltern Road resident reckons this is being exacerbated by the lack of off-road parking in the village.

Now Cllr Grime, along with Cllr Chris Vobe, Cllr Matt Smith and Helen Jones MP, are pressing the borough council to undertake a traffic management study in the whole of Glazebury.

There are also calls for the land opposite Acreville Grove to be converted into parking bays.

Cllr Grime said: "During my campaign, I spoke with many people who told me about the impact that various traffic-related issues were having on people’s quality of life in Glazebury.

"Problems such as road safety, inadequate parking provision and the ongoing difficulties with HGVs all demonstrate a clear need for us to work towards implementing a traffic management plan for the village.”
