FAMILIES will be turning the clock back more than a century for the annual Victorian Day celebrations in Culcheth.

Residents, shopkeepers, parish councillors and Lions club members will be in period dress and visitors can enjoy mulled wine, hot chestnuts and seasonal food on Saturday, November 29.

There will also be fairground rides, two Christmas fayres in the Parish and Methodist halls and craft stalls in the Scouts centre in Jackson Avenue.

Across the road there will be an art exhibition in the Culcheth Centre and LiveWire is holding a family history drop-in session at the library in Warrington Road from 10am to noon followed by lantern making workshops at 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

Youngsters can share their Christmas list with Santa at his grotto at the Methodist Church in Ellesmere Road and there will also be carol singing at the church at 4pm.

Santa will then parade to Lodge Drive at around 4.20pm to switch on the Christmas lights around the Village Green before the celebrations conclude with a fireworks display.

The event, now in its 13th year, is organised by Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council and Birchwood Lions Club.

It was originally organised by Culcheth Lions, who merged with Birchwood lions Club in 2012.

Clr Matt Smith, of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, said: "Victorian Day is a staple event on our village calendar and serves as a very enjoyable start to the Christmas season.

"We are really looking forward to this year’s event, and warmly invite everyone – wherever you live in Warrington – to come along and enjoy what’s on offer."
