A CULCHETH councillor says the repeated vandalism of a bus stop in the village is 'beyond a joke' and he is calling for CCTV to tackle the problem.

The bus stop at the junction of Warrington Road and Culcheth Hall Drive has been repeatedly damaged over the last few years – with a bill for taxpayers each time as the council has to replace the shattered glass.

Clr Chris Vobe said: β€œThe vandalism at this bus shelter is now beyond a joke, such is the frequency. Our village prides itself on having comparatively few incidents of anti-social behaviour when compared to other areas, but it seems that a selfish minority are set on damaging our amenities.

"Broken glass is a serious health hazard, particularly to children and the elderly who use this stop regularly. As a result, we are now exploring the possibility of having a camera installed in the shelter to clamp down on this type of behaviour.”
