LONG-AWAITED work is set to start on improvements to Shaw Street playing field in Culcheth at the end of October after a series of delays.

Clr Sue Bland, ward member for Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft, was given the update after raising her concerns with Steven Broomhead, chief executive of Warrington Borough Council, over three false starts the project has suffered so far.

The first phase will involve laying a new surface for the car park, improving the lighting, tidying up the land and painting double yellow lines in Shaw Street.

The second phase will see improvements to the buildings but will not take place until the next financial year.

Clr Bland said: "Residents can be assured that I will continue to press the borough for more investment for our villages."
