BBC journalist visits Padgate campus

A TOP journalist from the BBC visited the University of Chester’s Padgate campus to talk to students.

Paul Rasmussen, a senior producer at BBC Global News, shared his experience of the industry in the first of a series of open lectures.

“It was really great to meet with the students and learn about what their media interests are, specifically, their take on the Panorama documentaries they had studied as preparation for the session,” said Paul.

He discussed the work of the BBC press office, media in the UK and beyond, and changes in the field of journalism. Craig Lundberg, a decorated veteran of the Iraq war and a face of the poppy campaign, also hosted a guest lecture.

He was left badly injured and blind by rocket-propelled grenades in Basra in 2007.

And Gary Skyner, a comedian, talked about surviving the effects of the drug thalidomide, prescribed to pregnant women in the 1960s, and campaigning for justice for victims.
