A WOMAN has had her haircut to raise money for the hospital that helped save her brother's life.

Pamela Thomas decided to try and raise money for the Walton Centre in Liverpool as her brother Thomas Wright is being treated there after he was knocked off his bike and hit by two cars in Birchwood in March.

The 25-year-old, who works in a betting shop, has raised £500 which will be doubled by the company she works for and had her long locks chopped off on Tuesday.

"My brother had to be placed in a medically-induced coma and suffered with a severe brain bleed, torn neck tendons, a fractured cheek, a broken rib and a bruised lung," she said.

"He was sent straight to the Walton Centre after the accident and I am not sure if he would still be here if it wasn't for them.

"He is doing really well at the moment. He was in the coma for two weeks and then it took him a few days to wake up.

"He is getting a little better each day and he will have to re-learn a lot like walking."

Thomas, aged 23, has been receiving round the clock care since his accident but Pamela also has another motive for her charity mission.

"My brother wasn't wearing a helmet when the crash happened so I want to raise awareness of how important they are," Pamela, of Derek Avenue, Padgate, said.

"He was coming down the road and went to cross over when he was hit by the first car. He was thrown onto the other side of the road and hit by another car coming in the other direction.

"He has only just started talking and it wasn't until then that we knew what he would be capable of now and how much he remembered.

"Some days he isn't very good at remembering stuff. It could take six months for him to recover or it could take two years. He might never be the same again."
