Residents have appealed for work to be carried out to clear Latchford Locks

RESIDENTS have been appealing for work to be carried out to clear Latchford Locks.

Last month a pair of swans had made the locks their home but the site where the mother became surrounded by debris that followed the flow of the water.

It left the mother trapped on the nest and despite residents rasing concerns about the state of the lock it was left blocked for some time.

Ian Woollacott said: “She was sat on 8 eggs and is unable to leave the nest. I have spoke with Peel Holdings Manchester Ship Canal company who were going to clear it but have still not bothered.

“If it is a criminal for a member of public to interfere with a swans nest then surely it must be a corporate one as well.”
