CHILDREN in Dallam will soon be able to enjoy the fruits of their labour thanks to a £1,000 grant.
The Friends of Dallam’s Children has received cash from Green Machine – Unilever Fund to help expand its kitchen garden.
The plot is already up, running and flourishing under the group scheme which is open for people in Bewsey, Whitecross and Dallam.
It provides a chance for children to grow their own crops in the existing vegetable patch and aims to provide produce for the community café with them being transformed into healthy grub.
The cash from Green Machine – Unilever Fund, which is managed by Community Foundation for Merseyside, has helped to cover the costs of a new greenhouse and staging.
Debbie Bennett from the Friends of Dallam’s Children said: “The project involves children in gardening activities and enables them to learn where food comes from and how it is grown. They are involved in the whole process from the planting to the eating and parents are encouraged to learn more about gardening. The greenhouse will allow the project to continue all year round.”
The Green Machine grants are available for community groups to run environmental regeneration or environmentally-themed projects.
