Fears over animals
who residents say are
distressed through neglect

UPSET animal lovers in Appleton are calling on action to help two horses which have been left without water.

The horses have been left in a field by Hill Cliffe Baptist Church, near Red Lane, and their water storage has dried out with no sign of anyone replenishing their supply.

Jean Unsworth, who spotted the animals’ plight, said: “Left in the field are two lovely horses who have been provided with a pile of old hay to eat.

“They are clearly distressed by their thirst. There is a tin tank in their field which is totally empty.”

The animals have been on the site for some time and their owner had been paying to rent the land from Warrington Borough Council.

When Mrs Unsworth saw the problem she told a Warrington Borough Council employee who was working nearby about the horses’ situation.

“He said he knew and he would report it to his superior, but he would do nothing as it was 'not our problem'.

“Warrington Borough Council know who he is and have contact details as he previously paid to rent that land from them.”

A council spokesman said: “The owner of the animals has the correct licence and all fees have been paid. We have been in contact with the owner and have been reassured the animals are being regularly visited and there is plenty of water and feed on site. Any concerns regarding the welfare of animals should be directed to the RSPCA.”
