Councillor speaks out after residents complain about being ticketed

A CULCHETH councillor fears that parking fines in Lodge Drive are ruining the village’s community spirit and causing businesses to lose money.

Clr Paul Campbell, from Culcheth and Glazebury Council, says he has been contacted by residents complaining about the ongoing situation which he thinks is unfair.

There are signs saying Lodge Drive’s private car park can be used to visit the shops and restaurants but many drivers are still finding their car slapped with a ticket.

Clr Campbell, a retired police officer, said: “Many drivers visiting restaurants believed there were agreements with the car park landlord only to find they have been ticketed.

“This situation has to stop for the sake of the community and business as it is leading to ill will and loss of revenue.

“In the past I led a campaign to stop wheel clamping on the same car park and I was pleased when the current Government introduced legislation banning the use of clamping on private land.

“However, the landlord has introduced parking tickets.”

Clr Campbell, the Conservative candidate for Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft at the local elections, has written to the landlord at LNL Properties in Winwick.

The Bollin Close resident added: “I am asking for this unfair action to stop and to show some community spirit.

“I will ask the landlord to stop this practice or at the very least bring more clarity to the issue.

“I will also be making enquiries into how much of the land belongs to the landlord.”
