PUPILS were flying high at Great Sankey High School at a special science event involving schools in the area.
Teams from high schools across Warrington took part in the rocket challenge to teach pupils about aerodynamics.
The event has been running for several years and was the inspiration of farmer Andrew Bate and retired science teacher Bill Jones to challenge primary and secondary students to compete against each other to design, build and launch a water rocket with an egg on board. Bishops High School in Chester won the ‘longest egg’ award, after its rocket covered a distance of 170 metres with an intact egg.
The ‘distance’ award was a close competition between Penketh Primary and Evelyn Street Primary, with Evelyn Street covering a distance of 160 metres, just seven metres more than Penketh.
