Resurfacing work on village’s ‘worst road’ will be completed thanks to residents’ persistence

RESURFACING work on the ‘worst road in Penketh’ will soon be completed following years of campaigning for pot holes to be patched up.

Penketh Councillors celebrated the news work would finally start on Meeting Lane at the end of March after a ‘full resurfacing treatment’ had been agreed.

Clr Linda Dirir (LAB – Penketh and Cuerdley) said: “The full re-surfacing of Meeting Lane was in the plan last year with other local roads. However due to problems with the drainage system, it had to be delayed.

“We lobbied for years to get this work in the programme and are delighted with the news that this will be completed in April.”

Clr Allin Dirir added that requests were made for the work to be carefully planned from Stocks Lane to St Mary’s Road including the roadworks taking pace at non-peak times between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Clr David Keane, who described Meeting Lane as the ‘worst road in Penketh’, said: “I would like to thank residents who have worked with us to achieve this and to thank residents for their patience while the work has been done over the four weeks.

“We're assured the best job is beingdone on the road and the drains – I’ve been splashed a few times on Meeting Lane.”
