VISITORS can step back in time in Penketh but must be sure to be on their best behaviour if the headmaster walks past. The Oaks Centre Café on Stocks Lane has returned to its roots and relaunched as The Old School Café. During the opening week, a traditional school meal of beef stew and dumplings was on the menu followed by bread and butter pudding. St Paul’s Church bought the former Penketh Council School founded in 1908 and refurbished the building in 2000 for community use. Anyone with old photographs of pupils and staff from the former Stocks Lane School are also invited to take them to the cafe.
