SOLUTIONS are being sought after a spate of flooding in Croft over Christmas.

Although a number of improvements were made to the drainage network after floods several years ago, Heath Lane residents are still affected by water running off the farmland at the rear of their homes.

The water is not only flooding their properties but the roads as well.

Helen Jones MP and councillors Chris Vobe and Matt Smith brought the matter to the attention of the Warrington Borough Council chief executive Steven Broomhead.

The council does not have any powers to force landowners to improve or alter the drainage on their land but further solutions are being looked into.

Cllr Vobe said: "It cannot be acceptable that residents in this part of our village are continuously hit by flooding due to inadequate drainage from the farmland behind their homes.

"The level of flooding we saw at Christmas also impacted upon the highway.

"We are also supporting residents in their efforts to bid for funding from the Government’s flood protection scheme."
