THIRTY volunteers from a Birchwood housing association picked up paint brushes to give Oakwood Neighbourhood Centre in Whitethroat Walk a lick of paint.

The Your Housing Group team was supported by a team of four volunteers from Warrington Borough Council and professional painters and decorators from Bell Decorating Group for the much needed makeover.

The council-owned community centre has benefited from £22,000 of in-kind support to completely refurbish the building.

Board members and tenants also gave up a total of more than 150 hours to volunteer on the project.

As well as the building being painted, new LED lighting has been installed and once the work is complete coffee tables, chairs, sofas and office furniture will be added too.

Andrew Edwards, regional community projects manager at Your Housing Group, said: "Everyone worked so hard and the transformation is incredible.

"This community facility is now fit for purpose and much more inviting."

Oakwood Neighbourhood Centre will offer a range of activities including a work club, health and wellbeing sessions and art, photography and activity groups. There will also be mum and toddler groups and drop-in coffee shop sessions.
