Family fete takes place
after 30 year hiatus following parish survey

A COMMUNITY fair that vanished for more than 30 years is returning due to popular demand.

The Rixton-with-Glazebrook Carnival will be held on the Village Green on Saturday, June 28, from 11am to 4pm with free family activities.

There will be live music from Cadishead Band, Lymm Folk Club and singer Wayne Devlin in the main marquee as well as dance routines from Stagecraft and a show by Budgie the magician.

Elsewhere on the green will be a climbing wall, Zapparelli circus skills workshops and birds of prey displays from Rixton Raptors.

Enthusiasts can also view vintage tractors, motorbikes and a fire engine.

The carnival’s return follows a Parish Plan survey in 2012 when every resident was asked how they would like to see the village improved.

Neil Fairfax, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “From that one of the main things in the social side of the survey was that people wanted to have a carnival again.”

So the committee of 10 set to work on bringing the event back to life and have been planning it since October.

Neil, aged 48, of Claydon Gardens, Rixton, added: “We haven’t got the finished article yet and hope to make it bigger and better in the future.

“There’s a lot of goodwill for the carnival from people who remember it from all those years ago.

“Hollins Green History Society will also be digging out old photographs from past carnivals to display on the day. We just want it to be a fun family day out.”

There will be various competitions on the day as well.

Categories include best decorated cake and most interesting photo of village life and you can bring your pooch for the ‘Silly Dog Show’.
