A 15-YEAR-OLD pupil from Beamont Collegiate Academy has been voted the top young politician in the town.

Rose Warburton, from Orford, has been elected as member of youth parliament for Warrington by nearly 4,000 of her peers.

She said: “It’s been such an incredible experience just to be a candidate.

“I have been involved in so many amazing events and opportunities.

“There has been so much support from school and my friends.

“Loads of people came to the results at the Town Hall.

“I can’t wait to experience many more great things during my time in office.”

Rose was voted into the top slot, after giving a speech, along with 11 other candidates, at the Youth Cafe in Times Square.

Schools across the area took part in the election.

Her campaign was based on educating people on mental health issues, youth unemployment and challenging stigma surrounding perceptions of young people.

Rose believes youth unemployment is an issue in Orford, which is why she is promoting the problem at the youth parliament.

She intends to encourage more local companies to open up jobs to young people, including volunteering opportunities, and offer shadowing opportunities.

Rose has also started to work with The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Warrington, putting on workshops in schools that address mental health issues Craig Milburn, associate assistant principal at Beamont Collegiate Academy, in Orford, had suggested Rose should run for office.

Now elected, she is looking forward to visiting the House of Commons in November.
