New HGV rules implemented

NEW laws surrounding heavy goods vehicles in Burtonwood have come into force this month.

The legal team at Warrington Borough Council have made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to amend the current ruling.

This is to include weight restrictions on Burtonwood Road between the junction of Joy Lane and the roundabout with Lockheed Road.

The order was effective from November 12.

A copy of the order and a Statement of the council’s reasons for making the order along with a plan of the restricted area can be examined at the Legal Services Section at New Town House on Buttermarket Street.

 

Christmas celebrations in Burtonwood

HEAD down to Burtonwood village to mark the start of the festive period with the annual Christmas tree lights switch.

Taking place on Friday, December 4, visitors are invited to attend from 5.45pm with celebrations starting outside the library on Chapel Lane.

There will also be performances from Warrington West Concert Band and Burtonwood Community Primary School Choir.

Refreshments will be available afterwards in St Michael’s Parish Hall.

 

Light up the night with lantern making classes

Lantern-making workshops have been announced ahead of the Lantern Parade next month.

Come along to Burtonwood or Westbrook libraries to create a lantern for the event on Thursday, December 10.

The sessions are free but places are limited so booking is advisable.

Head down to Westbrook Library from 4pm to 5pm on November 27 or Burtonwood Library from 11am to 12pm on December 5.

 

Young entrepreneur changes career to inspire others into fitness

AFTER setting up a sports and fitness company in Singapore four years ago, Matthew Johnson decided he wanted a new challenge.

The 26-year-old has now set his sights on helping the people of Warrington to get in shape as a personal trainer at Pure Gym Warrington North on Winwick Quay.

After returning to the UK, Matthew signed up to complete the level three certificate personal training course with Premier Training international.

Matthew, who now lives in Wigan, began his career in fitness in 2009 when he coached in primary and secondary schools for two years.

He then decided to travel to Asia where he later started his business in Singapore which provided after schools sports clubs as well as boot camps and personal training sessions with adults.

He was then returned to England to finish his degree in sports science.

He said: “The Premier Training courses really helped me to develop professionally as the process was so thorough and in depth, and after a lifetime of fitness experience it still taught me new skills such as kettlebell and circuit training.”

 

Dog walker appeal launched

AN appeal has been launched to hunt down willing dog walkers in Burtonwood.

Lots of Walks – who provide dog walking and home boarding services – are looking for new members to join the team.

A spokesman for the company said: "Walkers complete a canine first aid course while they are with us and we carry basic first aid items in our vehicles.

"We are fully insured with public liability and key cover.

"Most important of all we are all dog lovers and count ourselves lucky that we get to spend our working days in the company of dogs."
