WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has welcomed the news that the post office in Callands is to be modernised with longer opening hours.

The post office at Callands Local Centre is to become one of the new main style branches.

Mrs Jones said: “The aim is to create a more modern branch which, crucially, will be open for longer.

"This is welcome news as it will provide a more convenient and effective service for customers. “

The new post Office is expected to open at 1 pm on Thursday, November 5, but it will close at 5.30pm on Monday, October 12, for refurbishment to take place.

During this period of closure, post office services can be accessed from Longford Post Office on Gough Avenue or Warrington Post Office in Golden Square Shopping Centre.

The doors to the post office will open from 7am to 10pm with selected post office products and services available.

The branch will be open in full from 9am to 5.30pm.

As a result of this, the opening hours will increase by an extra 59 hours a week

Julie Kemp, area manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

"We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

"This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the post office and will secure services for the future.

"The investment marks a commitment to our no more branch closure programme.”

The new-look post office will provide the same products and services with the addition of car tax and a selection of on demand travel money.

Refurbishment work will result in three serving positions.
