THE memory of a much-loved Burtonwood couple will never be forgotten after the first trophies named in their honour were dished out.

Thoughtful son Mike Kelly arranged for two cups to be presented to two deserving pupils in memory of his parents, James and Ann Kelly, at St Paul of the Cross Primary School.

Mike hopes this will act as a fitting tribute to his mother and father, who both attended the school.

Head teacher Dominic Vernon said: "Everyone is very proud of all our year 6 children, who have achieved so much in their time at St Paul of the Cross.

“A special congratulations to the children who were presented with individual awards.

“Harry Migoski for his overall contribution to school life, Faye Delooze for her hard work and endeavour, Amelia for greatest improvement, Shane McKillen for his care and service of others, Joseph Hall for his achievement in sport and Ellis Tyson for achieving the rotary club young achiever award.

“I would also like to extend our thanks to the Kelly family for the two new awards introduced this year in memory of their parents.”

Mike's father James grew up in Neils Row, Burtonwood, while Ann lived on Mercer Street and then Haley Road.

The James Kelly Memorial Cup will recognise achievements in sports while the Ann Kelly Memorial Cup will honour those who take care of others.

The cups will be funded by the Kelly family to honour their loved ones.
