Famous rollercoaster still going strong 20 years later

THE famous Antelope coaster at Gulliver's World will celebrate its 20th birthday this year.

The theme park ride was the first wooden roller coaster to be built in the UK since the Wild Mouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 1958.

Twenty years later, the rollercoaster is still going strong since it opened in 1995.

The rollercoaster was designed by the owner of Gulliver's and was part of the coaster boom that took the country's theme park market into the big time.

Dean Kimberley, director of guest services at Gulliver’s said: “Named after the ship upon which Gulliver made his first voyage to Lilliput, the Antelope coaster really is the flagship ride of Gulliver's World.

"It epitomises our strong family ethos - it was built by our founder Ray Phillips, whose daughter Julie is our managing director today.

Ray’s son Nick, who helped build the Antelope as a teenager, is now our development director.

“It’s always proven to be enduringly popular with the whole family."
