A FOMER Sunday School teacher at Houghton Green Mission has called on residents to help her relive her past.

Hilda Labbett nee Sanson is hoping to get her hands on some photos of the mission and any information regarding its later use.

The now 87-year-old lived in Houghton Green for many years and was confirmed and married in Winwick Church June 7, 1952.

But she moved to London for work after celebrating her 21st birthday and now lives in Essex.

She said: "I have a great interest in the old Houghton Green Mission because of my days as a child.

"My second son was also christened in the mission when we came back home to visit my mum and dad in the late 1950s."

The mum of two has fond memories of the mission including opening the Sunday School.

She said: "During the war the mission was closed but around 1944 to 1945 it was available to use again.

"At this time I was in my late teens and I thought there was nothing to do for the children in the village so I went to see the Rector at Winwick Church to ask if I could open the Sunday school again.

"He wanted me to have an older lady to do it with but I didn't want that.

"I had a younger girl Marjorie to help me and he eventually agreed. We had two classes and collected the little ones from home."

Hilda is looking for any information about what became of the building to help her memories to come flooding back.

She said: "I was so sorry to learn of the buildings use over more recent years and, on the last time I visited, finding that a house had replaced the mission.

"I had the best childhood any child could have in the village and would love to find out stories or photographs of the missions."
