BURTONWOOD Sewing Group played host to the High Sheriff of Cheshire, who heaped praise on the club for providing a place for people to share top tips while making new friends.

Susan Sellers, who has run a stitching group for around 19 years, was handed a sack of hand-made goods to be support the work of the Cheshire Hospices as part of her visit to the group.

Leader Anne Carr said: "More than 30 members and invited guests were given the opportunity to meet the High Sheriff and learn all about the role which was so interesting.

"She then went on to talk about how her sewing group had offered each other support through both dark days and happy occasions."

During the event Dorothy Axford and Margaret Garner from the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline spoke about the important work of the charity, which provides respite for youngster affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Anne added: "I felt extremely privileged that the High Sheriff requested to visit us and it was a great testament to the good work we’re all doing."
