BURTONWOOD residents will no longer be forced to endure slow internet speeds and will soon benefit from increased broadband.

The move was welcomed by Warrington North MP Helen Jones after BT suppliers, Openreach, confirmed their plans for fibre broadband in the area earlier this month.

Mrs Jones was delighted by the news after a number residents had raised concerns about the current broadband speeds in the area.

She said: “The good news is that the Newton-le-Willows exchange is being upgraded to deliver fibre broadband and, unless there are any last minute technical hitches, the work should be completed very soon.

"I know this will please the many constituents living in the area who have raised the issue problem of broadband speeds with me.

“The cabinets serving homes in the area will then need to be upgraded but that work should be undertaken over the next few months.

“Constituents are advised to register their interest for the fibre product with their service provider who will let them know when it becomes available."

Neighbouring areas have already had access to faster broadband speeds with 2,500 premises in Westbrook able to opt to fibre-optic network, bringing speeds of up to 80 megabits per second.

This is part of the £28.5m roll out by Connecting Cheshire.
